A very useful niffty application yet dangerous at the same time.
Its been a couple of days that I have touched ubuntu on and off Had to do some stuff back in the Windows XP world such as my programming assignment. One thing I have discovered and found amazing yet terrifying at the same time is the ‘Terminal’ Window App. New users might find this arcane and unintuitive and expert users might love them.
By default Ubuntu hides system files from the user so they will not mess it up which is good generally but not all the time. Thats where terminal comes in, its usefulness comes when you need access to install certain apps or update certain components of the system. such as this link here. Also community members post useful commands that help you fix things in your ubuntu installation.
However there are dire consequences if one is not careful as sometime a ‘helpful’ community member might post some terminal code like these ubuntu terminal codes which can destroy your system.
Overall I have gotten used to using it and find it useful if you need to SSH to some servers to upload files or administer a remote computer like apache if you do not have GUI access. But I recommend new uses to read this ubuntu doc on why this ‘double blade’ app exist

Wow. I don’t think you should ever touch a linux powered machine again.

well some critical ways of installing apps like instaling fonts or some system updates needed to use the ‘Terminal’ which should not be the case for new users, I hope they will follow Mac OSX way of doing things which is done over an interface rather than a CLI interface. But for the most part using it was rather easy and ok in some cases.

Linux is un-american.
It should be forbidden.

Linux might be unfriendly at first, but you get used to it once you really start. When you are stuck, you gotta use google a lot. But that’s how you learn and you learn a lot on your own, trust me.
The Terminal may look nerdy, but it’s a truly powerful tool once you get the hang of it. Like updating your system in one command.
If you are stuck, you can always try the “man” command at terminal for some (lots) of info. Eg. “man ps”. Man means “manual”?

I have used the terminal at school unix but I think for new users it might look scary. I kind of like it and hate it. I used the Terminal to update the development tools to get GCC to compile some schoolwork its quite a useful niffty tool but Linux lacks commercial programs at this moment.
