Macross Frontier - 07 - First Attack

Summary

As Ranka hurries to Sheryl Concert while Alto and the SMS battle the Vajra. The fleet arrives amidst a firere raging battle.

Alto and crew get into action. Back at the performance, Sheryl gives an exciting performance and Ranka is delighted however she wonders why the seat next to her was empty, thinking it was for Alto.

A huge Vajra battleship appears and Luca gets captured and Alto hastily rushes in to rescue. The Macross Cannon crew engage the battle ship as they transform into a huge mecha robot similar to Macross SDF-1.

Sheryl receives a live feed from her assistant on the battle that Alto is engaged in. Ranka at that time receives a recorded message from her brother as well. As Sheryl goes back to stage to sing she starts to cry, it was only when Ranka cheers Sheryl on that she realises she is there in the crowd and tells the audience she wants to sing for a group of people in a far away place. Ranka realises that she is taking about Alto and the others and joins with her in singing.

Alto whilst trying to rescue Luca from the Vajra onboard the battleship gets saved by an unknown Magenta Valkyrie. They both make it out as Macross Cannon takes out the Vajra battleship. Alto thinks about the Valkyria that saved him and at the same time the pilot onboard plays a harmonica to the tune of Aimo.

Impressions

A new song infinity sung by Sheryl  spliced between the battle scenes and her singing. It was really interesting how they portrayed Sheryl and Ranka singing together where they both knew someone fighting the Vajra. Macross keeps getting better it also feels nostalgic that lots of the original Macross themes and culture are kept in the series.
