Tengen Toppa – Gurren Lagann is a new Mecha anime from GAINAX (Evangelion) currently airing in Japan Apr 2007. Already watching the OP has gotten me Hyped up about the anime. Surprising to find that the OP for the anime is sung by Cosplayer Shoko Nakagawa

Summary: Pierce the Heavens with your Drill!
Simon is a digger who lives in an underground village. He sort of belives the story Kamina tells him and others of a “surface” above their underground village. One day during his digs, he chances upon a hidden crystal treasure in his dig, and later a huge mecha face. But suddenly his village is attacked by an unknown mecha (Ganmen), while being chased by the smexy Yoko who carries a huge sniper rifle.Simon uses the crystal he found earlier to power up the mecha and together with Yoko and Kamina defeats the Huge Ganmen and heads for the surface, only to get into more trouble.
Whats interesting about the mecha design is that the face is the body with arms and legs. Overall the pacing and action seems to flow very well and the comedy is light andfits overall with the episode. Looking forward to the next episode where the full Gurren Laggan Mecha appears.
